Becoming a Registered Dietitian

The following information from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics outlines the process for becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist:

  1. Complete a bachelor's degree and receive a verification statement from an ACEND-accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics.
  2. Get matched/admitted to and successfully complete an ACEND-accredited supervised practice dietetic internship program (like ours).
  3. Pass the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) dietetic registration exam (the credentialing exam for dietitians).
  4. Gain licensure in your state of practice, if applicable.
  5. Maintain continuing education.

2022 MSHN at Texas State Required Starting July 2022

Pending ACEND approval, beginning in 2022-2023, completion of the MS in Human Nutrition will be required for a verification statement from the Texas State DI.

2024 Master's Degree Required Beginning January 1, 2024

Students/interns will need to have a master's degree in order to take the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) credentialing exam to become a RDN.
